TR4/4A TR4 parts question???

I'm missing a few more parts for my 62 TR4 and don't know what they look like or were I might get them.

1. Is there some sort of gas pedal stop?
2. foot dimmer switch plate/bracket
3. Plates to cover the windshield wiper access found underneath the dash.

Like I said I can't even find a picture of any of these parts so I'm not quite sure were to start. Any help appreciated.

Hi Larry Get yourself a copy of How To Restore Triumph Tr4&4A by Roger Williams Foreward by Bill Piggot(whose own books give a comprehensive detailed history of the Triumph marque). Karl

Larry, I don't know if this will help, but here's what I found:

Nothing is shown for a gas pedal stop on Page 14 in the Moss online catalog (available as a pdf file) for the stop. It appears that the pedal bottoms out on it's own. I'm not sure.

Page 130 shows a #54 dimmer switch, but no plate or cover. Is this what you need?

Page 114 pictures #50, the wiper motor access cover, but it's NLA.

Sorry that I can't be of more help.

Probably got that stuff out on the hulk. Lemme take a look in the daylight tomorrow.
I think it may have had an adjustable stud as a pedal stop, the dimmer mount is a bent metal "box" that stick out from the kick panal, and those plates are just screwes, and glued in place.
If I got any of it I'll PM ya with some pics and info.

I think that I drank a lot of beer in your town when I was young, foolish and always driving up to Watkins Glen to watch SCCA & Trans Am races. Good sausage sandwiches too.

Yes, there is a pedal stop, at least on the 4A, but it's just a bolt through the firewall, or maybe welded in place. Not a big deal.

On the wheel box plate covers and dimmer switch plate, I'd think Moss or Revington TR would have them.

I am pretty sure the pedal stop is the same as your TR6, a bolt head coming from the firewall.

Yes, the '4 has a stop, the squarish pad on the shaft of the gas pedal hits it. It is bascially a bolt and likely adjustable.

You can see it come thru the firewall directly below the steering column... go down about 5" and there will be a pointy end of a bolt coming thru a nut... about even with the top of the fuel pump.

In yur case there may just be a nut there (can't tell if it is welded to the firewall) or just a hole.

Hi Larry,

I can confirm the throttle pedal stop is nothing more than a standard bolt (looks like 5/16 NF x 1 or 1.5" approx.) that's threaded into a nut that's welded to the front side of the firewall. That's what's on my '62 TR4. It's original to the car.

As mentioned, the dimmer switch platform is pretty simple. It's basically just an angled box folded out of sheet metal. If you had an example, or the specs, it would be pretty easy to make. However, should also be pretty easy to find, too, from just about anyone who is stripping a TR. I'm not sure exactly when they stopped using it, sometime during TR4 production. It also wasn't used on RH drive cars.

It's not shown in the factory spares catalog, but is listed next to the Headlight/Foot Dipping Switch as "Bracket, dipswitch support, 609384, 1 ea." The fasteners used to assemble and mount it are two each: YF7528/screw, self-tapping; FN2045/Nut, fix; HU0505/screw, set; and WP0138/wahser, plain. All the above is listed next to plate AG in the catalog.

The formed sheet metal pieces covering the openings that give access to the wipers are: two each 650159/plate, cover, windscreen wiper access. They are shown on illustration AJ of the spares catalog and use two each 650172/seal, rubber under them, and are fastened with eight YA0403/screw, self-tapping.

Maybe these part numbers will help. The Roadster Factory, Revington TR, Rimmer Bros. and some other vendors reference original part numbers (while a couple other big vendors seemed to feel the need to reinvent the numbering system and confuse things).

A last resort for some of the missing pieces might be Triumphs Only or similar TR specialist. (www.triumphsonly.com)

Both the bracket for the dipswitch and the cover plates for the wiper box access are simply painted semi-gloss black.

Cheers!
