TR4 parts car in Alaska with "back window"?

Anyone here in Alaska that wants to see if a "back window" to a TR4 parts car is a Surrey top?

Re: TR4 parts car in Alaska with "back window"?

I don't see evidence of a surrey top, but there appears to be an over drive stalk on the steering column. If engine and transmission are still there, this might be a buy. Contact owner/seller for VIN number. If it ends with a 'O', oh, not zero, there is an OD in someones future.

Re: TR4 parts car in Alaska with "back window"?

You are assuming the transmission has not been changed in its life time. It looks like it was well used when parked, but I'm sure it ran. :jester:

This thread could become political due to its location.

Re: TR4 parts car in Alaska with "back window"?

Jim,

I agree no evidence of a Surrey top but not sure what else a back window would be. They wouldn't really be talking about the soft top and frame would they? Although I bet that's what it is.

The car is a mix of TR4 and TR4A. It has the front fenders, doors and grille of a TR4A but the dash of a TR4 and perhaps the rear body section as well. I can't quite tell if it has the TR4 trim/capping around the rear for the soft top fasteners or not.

I saw the stalk on the right-hand side too but they didn't mention transmission and I wasn't sure if maybe that was the light switch from it's TR4A heritage. Now that I look closer, I think you can just make out the TR4 light switch on the dash on the edge of the picture.

My guess, and squinting at the picture - I think the tranny is long gone. But how many TR parts cars can you get up in Alaska? I was just glad it wasn't a 69 TR6, because that is where I sold mine in 1991!

Hey guys

I could go and have a look and stop all the assumptions if ya guys would like.

Well, Ed, Wasilla ain't that far up the road.

But:

I do see a rear axle.
Says it has an engine.
That rear quarter tweak looks like it extends into the door opening, and I'd guess the frame is bent BAD.

Last licensed in what, 1977?

33 years in the mud and the snow?

No mention of title.

Hauling it out and shipping something with no wheels to the lower 48 is something that is probably not a real good idea for something in that condition, but, hey, that's just a WAG.

Re: TR4 parts car in Alaska with "back window"?

I recalled someone here in Alaska looking at a TR4 a while back (Ed was that you?) and thought perhaps they might be able to get some parts off of it to make it worth $300. Definitely not worth taking it anywhere else!

yes i was trying to buy a tr4a but the deal fell through at the last moment. we ended up buying a 69 spit for a little open top fun.

im headed to wasilla next week to pick up some spit parts from a guy parting out a bunch of brit cars. im trying to get his 59 bug eye! but hes not ready to give it up,its just been sitting for years in a yard.

cheers ed

Ed-

While you are there, keep your eye peeled for a rusting 69 TR6 which had a two-tone paint job. I sold mine to a guy in Wasilla so you never know!
