TR4/4A TR4 Fuel line to fuel pump question

Hopefully my pictures will clarify my question. How does a 1/4 fuel line fit into a new pump. The compression nut that came with the pump is too large to compress a 1/4 inch sleeve.

I just did mine over last year--all new fuel line from tank to pump. I spent ages looking for the right fitting. Mine-I think-was a British Whitworth threading, and that was the problem.

I know this won't help, but I gave up and just used the old one already on the car (the pump). I think it uses a ferrel over the line, and the fittings available locally didn't fit the same way, although at least one guy assured me that I should just use it and try it. I didn't try it, because it wobbled more on the line, and the dimensions, using a caliper, showed differences, too.

I'd like to know what others say, but my conclusion was to avoid losing the original fitting.

As I said when they brought my Martini... "Where's the olive?".

Translation: Aren't you missing something here? I think there should be an olive that fits over that 1/4" line (after you have slipped the compression nut on aways. That said, you may have difficulty finding just the right size olive as I think the original was longer than the hardware store variety.

Originally a 5/16" nut that converts to fit 1/4" tube. I think TRF has them, maybe PegasusRacing.com in their hardware. If the original nut is not totaled, all you need is a 1/4" compression ferrule that you can get anywhere for a quarter.

I don't think that's a compression nut that came with your pump. It looks like a regular flare nut. Most gas lines are flares or push-on...but it looks like my TR2 has a compression fitting on the fuel shut-off valve.

Find a good auto parts store (NAPA?) that has a good selection of Weatherhead fittings....they should have what you need.

That fitting in the picture looks like a standard pipe to compression fitting. My guess would be 1/4"NPT to 1/4" compression. Should be available just about anywhere.

I also searched hi and low and never did find a new fitting or the "long olive"...which is the compression sleeve that fits over the line. Your original compression fitting can be reused, the problem is the lenth of the compression sleeve, or "olive" that fits over the line.

Called Moss, TRF, Ted S, etc.....looked in Paragon, McMaster, etc. without success, and yes the fittings included with new pumps are not correct.

Tried to re-use the "olive" but it leaked. Then found a page on a TR site that described how to make a new olive from two new short 1/4 olives that you can get anywhere. I was succesfull using this technique after several attempts.

I will look for the web page
