There are two very different check straps used on the TR4. Early and late.I just replaced my TR4 door checkstraps and used a machine bolt with nylon threaded bolts to secure them to the door. The checkstraps make a loud pop as I open or close the door. Do I need to replace the spring clip to stop this noise? If so how do it do that? Thank you.
Mad dogI have changed lots of early style straps. The replacements are only so so at best. And offer the advantages
of metric threads so you can accidently ruin them with the old bolts.

Thank you for confirming the rivets have to be drilled out. My springclip broke, but the checkstrap is fine. So I'm going to use a dremel tool to carefully grind the face of the rivet flush. Then, they will probably pop out backwards with a light punch tool.I replaced my checkstrap on my TR6 which I believe is similar (or the same) for the TR4.
Rivets have to be drilled out. I am sure you can probably
re-rivet them, but I chose to use machine screws lockwashers and nuts.... it was a lot easier.
