TR4/4A TR4 Door Check Straps

Hey everyone,

Got a collective question directed to the big Triumph "brain in the jar".

I have an early TR4 with the earlier style doors and door check straps. Replacement check straps currently seem to be unavailable (which is a good thing as the last set I bought self destructed). I also have a pair of later styled doors with the later styled check straps. Has anyone out there in Triumph land put later TR4 doors and check straps on an earlier TR4 car? That is will the later style check straps bolt to the earlier style A-pillar?

Thanks all,

Welcome to the board - haven't tried it, but I believe I read that the door setups are not compatible, it is not just the check strap, it is the A pillar and location of the strap. Just idle opinion for the moment, someone with facts will likely chime in.

I had to go the other way, older doors, newer check straps. I folded over the pin ears on the door and welded on a piece I fabricated to look like the newer pin ears. I would think that you might be able to fasten the riveted check strap retainer on the A post somehow and use the newer style check strap. I could not find a way to use the older checkstrap assembly since the newer one was spot welded inside the A post. Good luck.

Thanks for the input guys.

I did buy check straps a few years ago but they didn't last.

I guess I will disassemble the ones I have and see if I can fabricate a better solution.

Cheers...
