TR4/4A TR4 carb problem HS 6 SU

The vents are well hidden, but they are there (and required). IIRC there is a small opening below where the fuel line attaches.
 
Well, I'm not familiar with the Healey & MG versions, so can't comment there. But the vent is required or the engine won't run properly, so I'm pretty sure the carbs you saw had vents. But since TR4s did not originally have HS6, there's no telling where they came from.

Here's a shot of a replacement HS6, which I believe is similar to the original TR4A setup

Yes, it's the fuel inlet and also the vent. Click on the thumbnail and look closely, there is a shiny bulge below the inlet hose and a shadow where the bulge does not quite touch the cover. That's the vent.

That's interesting thanks. I had never seen that type of vent. The other HS type I've seen have a push on fitting. Thank you.
