Not seriously thinking about this right now, but in theory wouldn't moving the battery to the rear of the car and mounting it down low in the trunk help with cg and weight distribution?

Yes. But unless you plan to race or autocross, the investment wouldn't be worth the improved handling imho. If you haven't already bought them, a swaybar upgrade would be a better improvement for the money.
 
Hi Doug - agreed. I just thought this was interesting and I never considered it. Having the battery that close to the gas tank doesn't thrill me either...
 
I'm going to do this on my tr4 BUT i will not use a metal box for a battery. Battery acid and metal don't mix (or any vapours). i like a box that will seal and vent it outside the trunk.
