Can anyone tell me the length of TR3a battery cables.I have an electrician hot rod buddy making some up,and has offered me a set if I can tell him the lentghts.I dont have a battery or solenoid yet so I need lengths of + to solenoid,- to fire wall and solenoid to starter. Also what would be recommend gauge. He's using #1 for a long run to trunk, but Im thinking #4 is probably all I need.
Thanks
Tom

Tom, on mine with aftermarket cables - battery to solenoid is 13". Battery to firewall was also 13". However I replaced this with an earth cable from the battery to the top mount bolt on starter motor, which is 36".

The original starter motor really flies with a direct earth cable, rather than the current travelling via the engine and firewall to return to the battery.

My aftermarket cable is 12mm O/D and the car is negative earth.

The original battery to firewall cable was open weave without any insulation, but both my cables are insulated.

Regards,

Viv.

Aloha Tom,

I've replaced the original cables with after market ones, probably from NAPA. The battery cables are probably 15" long, a standard length offered by NAPA. I measured on my car with a steel tape measure and I didn't want to touch a battery post, and they were about 14" or so. The cable from the solenoid to the starter motor measured about 28", but I suspect it is 30" as that is also a standard length offered by NAPA. My cables are all 4 gauge.

Dave and Viv,
Thanks.Just what I needed. My friend gave me tip sheet from Ron Francis wiring ,where he got his harness, fuse and relay blocks, and they also mention the direct ground to the starter.
Thnaks again,
Tom
