TR2/3/3A TR3b steering box options - rebuild or upgrade?

So the steering box isn't holding oil, leading to the rebuild or replace with a TR4 rack questions.

I'm debating a rebuilt box as the way to go vs. biting the bullet and going for a rack.

She'll be a driver, but I'm planning on using her a bunch.... Strict originality isn't a huge thing for me as long as upgrades are tasteful/useful (like Pertronix etc..)

Any preferred box re-builders here in the US? Are there rebuild kits available or is this a job bets left for a professional?

I'm going to be in the UK for work in a little over a week, so any ideas on UK parks suppliers are OK.

Thanks for the ideas and coaching guys.

Did you try the Penrite Steering box grease? Mine won't hold oil either but does not leak with the Penrite product.
I recently had the Apron off so checked the box and the grease clung to and covered everything as it should.

Hi there.

No, I have not tried Penrite. Is this the stuff (technical term) you used?

If it's leaking from the rim of the top cover, it means that someone has overtightened down on the adjusting peg and this has forced a "warp" up into the cover. Take it off and check the sealing surface of the cover where it seals to the top flange of the steering box. If it's not flat, try to straighten it as best you can. Filing it flat or lapping it will make it true again. Then re-assemble it with a new gasket and sealer goop.

I just used the normal steering shaft filler hole and did not mix anything.
The bottle comes with an integral tube extension and you squeeze the bottle.
It's a stand alone item.
I do know it flowed well enough as I took the lid off of the steering box when the apron was off and everything was nicely coated.
Your old gear oil will cont. to leak out until depleted.
