Hey Folks ..New guy here.

I`m in the process of body off frame restoration of a 59 tr3A...BLOCK IS CRACKED. Anybody accomplished an engine tranmission trans plant?

Jeff

Yes I've seen a four pot Nissan engine dropped in, but the car then becomes a bit of an orphan.

Why not scratch around for another block and keep your car original. You can even use a TR4/4A block and just change the front engine plate (wider mounts), and put your old flywheel and clutch on it. Probably wise to have it balanced if going that way.

Then the car retains proper value, and is easier to eventually sell.

Viv.

Welcome Jeff! You found a great place for Triumph related help and knowledge sharing.

Now, as to your question. Engine and transmission swaps where other TR4 engines are used are pretty common with our cars. Do you have another block lined up?

Hi Jeff,
I agree with the others that it would be better to keep with an TR engine. You can use anything from a TR2 - TR4A. You should be able to find a usable block. If you put the "outside stuff" from you engine on the new one, it will look correct to most people.

TRactor motor blocks are easy to come by, in the lower 48. In fact, there's one sitting on my garage floor that I'd like to get rid of. But getting it to the North Pole might be tricky!

Maybe you could ask Santa to pick it up on the way back ?

Keep checking craigslist, etc. - I wouldn't be shocked if you can find a block in Anchorage for example.

Hi Jeff,

I just wanted to wish you a "Welcome" and best wishes on your find. You should`nt have much of a problem locating a TR block.

Why not just post here in the "Wanted" section & see what happens.

Regards, Russ

Maybe, but donor cars are possible - here's one from 1964!

Randy how did you find that? Welcome to the club Jeff. TR blocks are a dime a dozen. Well maybe a bit more.
