TR2/3/3A TR3A tank sending unit will this 1 work?

Purchased this sending unit for my TR3A and went to install it today and wala it's the wrong one. Invoice and box says TR2 - TR3. Look at the pic. There is 1 post unlike my old one has 2 spades. The new one is also slightly smaller and the mounting holes are off a bit. If I drill them larger to fit my screws and turn the cover to align the holes, the float will hit the tank.

What do you think this is off? Would it work in my car? My concern would be that it could be from a model that uses the 10.3 voltage for the gauges like a TR6? I could redrill the holes so the float is correct or bend the float arm so it fits properly in the tank.

Dang, I thought this was about some new hi tech SANDING tool for gas tanks!

I can't help knowing if this unit will work or not.
I can tell you the last sending unit I got from Moss for
my 3A I had to redrill the holes. Gil

Re: TR3A tank sanding unit will this 1 work?

In 2006, we put one of these into a TR3A we were restoring and found that the 6 securing holes were out by 30 degrees. THe bolt circle diameter is correct and the holes line up with those on the tank. But the whole assembly is mounted 30 degrees off. So we bent the swing arm that has the float (plastic on the new one) on the bottom end more to the center of the tank interior so the float and the wire would not get hung up on the back wall of the inside of the tank.

One thing to check is which way the resistance changes. On TR4-6, the resistance goes down as the float moves higher. On TR2-3, the resistance goes up as the float moves higher.

Thanks for all your help. I did as Don did and bent the swing arm. For the first time in 26 years I now have a working fuel gauge. Now I can through away that yard stick.
