TR2/3/3A TR3A - speedo/tach question

These two photos show the housings of my tach and speedo. The tach housing has two tubular lamp holders which extend beyond the surface of the housing. These hold the 2 lamps which provide back lighting. My speedo has only one of these tubular lamp holders, used for the high beam indicator. There are no "tubes" for the back lighting. Are these missing or should the bulb sockets plug directly into the speedo housing?

Hi Frank.

On mine, the "backlight" bulb holders fit in the "socket" just like yours.

(not that I'm a stellar example of anything ...)

It's all fine. Just different housing designs. Nothing is missing.

Several variations in the number of illumination bulbs and how they mount. Doesn't yours at least have a hole (possiblly top center) where the illumination bulb holder can snap in? That's how some of mine are.

I believe that is a later tach body (possibly a factory replacement). Originals looked like your speedo, the backlight holders went directly into the body.
