TR2/3/3A TR3A speedo problem

I have my speedo out and I am trying to fix a sticky speed indicator. Is there any good documentaion for taking the speedo apart? I notice a little bit of end play on the spinnig mechanism and when its pushed in the problem occurs, but when there is no tension pushing in with the square drive cable then the indicator drops just fine.

Thanks
Tim

That's a great site. I too have had the problem you describe wherein the speedo needle is free when I push in on the hub of the needle but the cable pushing from behind causes it to bind.

I think I rduced the play slightly by forcing things together a bit. Did this on a spare speedo as the persuasion required made it a risky procedure IMO. Still sticks a bit around 0-20, okay above that range.

If you find a way to improve it let us know.

I figured it out.
It ended up being an internal oval shape slip on washer that had a little wear on it so I was able to flip it over and now get another 49 years out of it again. It caused a tiny bit of end travel on the spinning mech which caused a slight bind. Now it works great.

Can you describe where that washer resides? Thanks!

Its in the middle of the two plates that the odometer is mounted on. The are 3 tiny screws that come off that separate the odemeter in half, and then there are two screws holding the oval plate down around one side of the mech. It only takes about 10 or 15 minutes to get it apart. Re-connecting the two small springs takes a steady hand and two small screw drivers.

This web site that Don listed shows it all. https://home.comcas https://home.comcast.net/~rhodes/speedo.pdf t.net/~rhodes/speedo.pdf

I had a worn gear and the mounting flange was worn.
