TR2/3/3A TR3A Speedo Location & Part number

Not Don, but see if this helps:

The lens distorts things a bit, in person it looks to be right at 3" long.

I used that shorty stub to reset mine for many years. Now have the correct fitting and need to get around to putting in in.

In case you don't know or recall, the shaft is a stiff spring with a black tube over it:

At the end of February 2012, the above photos were posted regarding the trip odometer reset for a 1958 TR3A.

Does anyone happen to know what the diameter of the reset stub is? I really don't want to pull the speedometer but I would like to make a "reset tool" for the trip odometer.
 
That shaft end with the hole in it is actually a tube -- fits over the shaft on the speedo. The diameter of the shaft it slips over is .116-.117 (I measured several).

I once made one from a part off an old Coleman lantern -- but it was a fussy task.

You might be able to use some brass tuning with a 1/8" ID -- if you can get a straight shot at the fitting on the speedo you may not need the thing to flex -- otherwise a spring or stiff rubber tube may be in order.

The shaft is secured with a very small screw that threads into the inner/upper shaft -- needs to be secure as you have to pull down to engage the reset gears.

No way you can hook this up w/o pulling the speedometer -- but that is very simple to do. With a bit of practice one can do it w/o even looking while sitting, say, in a church parking lot (calibrating the unit on the road).
 
Thanks for that info. I thought I had read in another post that one pushed up to engage the reset. I guess I need to revisit the posts that describe pulling and replacing the speedometer.
 
Yep, it's a push to reset...but the fact almost every post is broken at the speedo end says that most folks must pull at it pretty hard.
