I just looked at the spark plugs in my 61 TR#A. They were Champion L87YC.. Since I just got thois car, what is the best to run. It is a standard engine with points.

I have put 93 gas in it but I still feel a little knock at mid range rpm (3000).

Boy do I love this car.

Concensus seems to be that the NGK BP6HS are very good.

The Champion # these days is 312 (same as L87YC, they seem to change their number scheme every decade or so).

Personally, I've never had a plug problem that I know of though some find one brand works better than others.

If you are running a Lucas sport coild you may be able to open up the plug gap a bit.

I've been to the Ahwahnee Lodge many times, took the name for our mountain home (see attached). Being in a remote area we have names on the places instead of numbers. Usually the TR4 spends the winter in the warm desert valley but once in awhile it gets to play in the snow.

I've always used Champion #312 plugs (that's the new number). I get about 25,000 miles per set. Just today I bought 4 more for the TR3A that I'mm restoring.

Don, Very nice, is that going to be a new daily driver or a show car? Do you do your spraying with an HVLP spray gun?

Don -- If I recall correctly from that story in the Triumph newsletter I mentioned, you wanted your TR3A to be green but were only able to get black. I guess you finally got your green one (took a few years). Looks great.
