TR2/3/3A TR3A Spark Plug Wires Any Good Ones Out There?

On my 3rd set of plug wires. The current set I got from Team Triumph which were from Moss I'm sure 5+ years ago. The heads are hard plastic and the clip that attaches to the plug it'self keeps pulling out of the plastic head. The original set I had were soft like rubber and lasted the longest. I keep replacing these one at a time as they keep going bad. Last night after doing some tuning 2 pulled out. @#$^&%#@!!!not again is what I said.

Were can I find a good (best) set?

Jeff at Advanced Distributors made me a set when he rebuilt my dizzy. I can't say how long they'll last -- they haven't been used yet -- but everything else he does is top flight. And -- they were cheap!

I got Jeff to rebuild my dizzy and installed it about two weeks ago. Got the new set of wires while i was at it. With nothing else changed I'm getting about 20% better gas milage and the car idles at 500 RPM smooth as glass.
When I got the old distributor out there was at least 1/16" of play in the shaft, maybe more.
I can't say enough good about Jeff, he has been very helpful and always has time to talk and give advice.
I also had the wires with the plastic heads and had Jeff send me a push-on type dist. cap and a new wire set.
Much better in my opinion.
 
You might consider making up your own wires. The wire, clips and boots are all available. I've been doing this for years. After I have the wires cut to length, I slide the boots on, then crimp the terminals on the end. I finish this off with a small dab of clear silicone sealant which prevents moisture from entering between the boot and the wire. The set that I have on now was installed in 2002.
 
I, too, make my own -- from a 'universal' 8-cylinder set of copper core wires. Dirt cheap and enough in the box to make 4 or 5 sets for the TR4/TR3.

I got the 'Champion' boots -- the hard plastic right-angle kind. One set came from Moss, the other was NOS. They screw into the ends of the wires and go on the plug with a definite snap.
 
That Advance dstributors still didn't work. Even tried their direct website and that did.t work eather.

I like the idea of making my own. I'll go to some parts stores and check it out.

Hi Geo on those plastic spark plug ends is there any resistance in them. I was cleaning up some old ones and checked them with an ohm meter and found resistance. I am at work now and do not have the exact numbers. I was just curious if you knew.
 
I bought two sets of HT cables from one of the sportscar parts suppliers here in Montreal. He gets them from England and they are not only working well, but the 90 degree cap that that you connect to the sparkplugs is one piece molded together. They are black, almost like the original set that came with my car when new, and better than the previous ones I had been using where I had bought a black cable set, cut them to length and then screwed on the hard plastic 90 degree end caps. The hard plastic would break when I pulled them off the plugs.

As suggested Jeff at Advanced Distributors would be an excellent source. I make my own with these parts from NAPA:
BEL 727402, 7mm 90 degree plug boot; BEL 727006, 90 degree plug terminal; BEL 727003, push in coil terminal. For the wire I use bumble bee wire from the usual sources. A 7mm wire crimping tool makes the job easier to insure good connections, NAPA has one (BEL 726618).

Regarding the various hard plastic spark plug terminal, I have experienced poor quality in the ones I've bought recently. About half of them are bad with no electrical continuity. The screw end that turns into the spark plug cable tends to break from the plastic or doesn't have a good connection to the spark plug connector. They do have resistors in them, about 10 ohms.

Anyone have experience with the Cobalt spark plug wires Moss offers? I got a set of the repros with the black plastic 90 degree angle ends and they are horrible. The connector keeps separating from the boot, and I'm not sure how to get them to seat well again as it looks like they were spring loaded from within the plastic boot.
