TR2/3/3A TR3A piston choice question

Have an spare engine and it has very low miles. The engine and tranny have been out of service for 40 years.
Took the engine apart and found it to be stock size and stock bearings.
Checked the crank and it is hardly worn and the sleeves look fairly nice. The piston rings were stuck and the sleeves had no rust.
My question is should I go to the larger (87mm) or just use the original size pistons (83mm)? I think the originals will be okay after I get the rings off.
Looking for opinions.

Nothing wrong with the stock size. The bigger liners & pistons give you a bit more grunt but they also burn more fuel (even when you aren't using the grunt).

In 1990, I re-built my engine when I restored my 1958 TR3A. I put in new pistons, rings and liners, but kept it all at 1991 cc displacement. I ran that engine 94,000 miles and then did it again last spring. The liners and pistons are the ones that went in back in 1990. I had the bores honed and put in a set of new rings I bought directly from Hastings in Michigan. I paid over the phone with my M/card and had the new rings and all the info in a few days. My pistons are Hepolite from England in 1990 and these have 4 rings. Check your pistons before you buy new rings. If you have or get pistons with three rings, it will be a different Pt. No. for the new set of rings.

My PO had bought the 87mm pistons and liners so I put them in. My original pistons and liners had 100K miles on them so it was a no brainer for me. If you have the stuff already, do it. If you don't and everything looks OK I wouldn't mess with them.
