TR2/3/3A TR3a original floor mats

Has any one used the rubber floor mats from TRF that are made to be like the original equip? Do they come with the grommet like snaps already in the mat. They offer a fitting kit but doesn't really say what's in it. I don't need the spring clips on the toe board.

Call and ask them. All the ones I've seen have the 2 snaps which hold them to the floorpanels just in front of the seats.

The ones I got from England in 1990 didn't have a snap up at the top of the firewall end because it depends on the model you have. Mine is an early TR and had a center top snap up front originally so I had to put a new snap into the rubber mat to hold it up there to the base for the snap which was secutred to the firewall in the footwell.

For a later TR3A (post 60000) and TR3B there is a clip that is secured to the firewall and holds the rubber mat up by pinching the top edge of the mat in the center so it doesn't need a snap here.

Eric: Several years ago, TRF had maybe 200 sets of these made up. I think they sold out in less than one week and I didn't get a set. They are now available again and earlier this year a bought a couple of sets.

I folded the driver side mat over so you could see how it is reinforced. Hope this answers your question about the snaps.

Good luck

Thanks for the pics that's exactly what I needed to know. They have them and the embossed mats to go on top on sale now!

From TRA,

<span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">Chronological Summary of Interior Changes</span></span>
TR2
TS 1201 Revised listing of paint and trim schemes issued.
TS 1871 Tonneau cover changed
TS 3268 Battery box drain tube introduced.
TS 3513 "Baby" Tenax fasteners replaced by Tenax fasteners on convertible top, sidecurtains,
tonneau, and hoodstick cover.
TS 4229 Remote control bonnet release mechanism replaced by Dzus fasteners.
TS 4400 Single window convertible top replaced by three window top.
<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">TS 5089 Front footwell carpets replaced by black rubber mats.</span></span>

Front Floor Mats (cars after TS 5089) - Cars built after TS 5089 had the front footwell carpets replaced by
black rubber mats which fit the car in the same manner. these are not to be confused with the aftermarket
"Amco" floormats, as they extend up the bulkhead instead of covering only the floor.

- On cars having sloping rear shelves (pre TS 60000), the rear heelboard side pieces were usually glued, as
was the arch shaped center bulkhead panel. The propshaft tunnel carpets were glued, screwed, or left
loose. The transmission tunnel carpet(s) were snapped. The side bulkhead carpets (kickpanels) were
screwed along the dooredge, and glued or screwed at the front. The rear floor carpets were left loose, the
seats holding them down. The rear shelf carpet was most often screwed.<span style="font-weight: bold"> The front footwell carpets or
mats snaps at the front, on the bulkhead. Often, these front snaps are replaced by blued jawed clamps,
particularly on later cars*.</span>

NOTE: TRA does not define "later cars". However, my car, TS58476 LO, built Sept. 1, 1959 has always had clips rather than snaps to hold the front rubber mats.

Input from other 3A/3B owners, regarding this detail, would be appreciated.

TS39781LO had two clips on each side when it came to me. No mats or carpets as I recall, but the clips were there (and were already rust colored, no signs of paint blue or otherwise). The screws securing the clips look a lot like the interior panel screws, too.

My TS53854L had spring clips on the toe board(bulkhead). Not sure about blueing and had two snaps per side just in front of the seats.

I took another look at the clips today, and they do have traces of what appears to be black paint on them.
