TR2/3/3A TR3a nuts and bolts

As I get ready for my TR3 restoration project, I was wondering if anyone might have a listing of the number and sizes of nuts and bolts required to replace the standard nuts and bolts on a TR3a. I was fortunate to have such listing for my AH B/E sprite and have a local Farm Supply Co. that has a very large collection on fasteners (many grades also) that they sell by the pound. E.g. All the non-engine nuts and bolt for the AH cost me about $14.00. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The good news is that nearly everything on a TR3 is american standard with fine thread pitches, which would be easily available at you Farm Supply. I'm wrapping up a TR3 restoration myself, and if I could get hardware cheap like that, I'd go in and get a couple of handfuls of 1/4" and 5/16" bolts of varying lengths. I'm not sure of a listing that identifies each and every bolt; my best advice is to have an organized supply on hand and just draw from it when needed. You'll need lots of 1/4" bolts, 3/4" long, fine threaded, as they were used exclusively to hold the body panels on. Don't forget the lock washers and cut washers!

The original S-T parts catalog for the TR2 to TR3A with exploded views showing all the parts setarately but in the correct positions list all the part numbers (like all the supplier's catalogs) but all the bolt and nuts are also shown. The sizes of the bolts, etc, have to be "translated" into the normal UNF language, but it's not hard when you dismantle something, you write the correct size and length down in the S-T parts catalog, next to their curious numbering system.

Note also that some fasteners are not found in the 'standard hardware catalog' that Don linked to. That means they are special in some way, and probably should not be substituted with hardware store stuff. The 'special' aspect is not always obvious, and may include things like a slightly larger (precision) shank, or an unusually long shank, or special material.

One other thing, not everything on a TR3 is SAE. Electrical parts and carburetion in particular tend to use obsolete British threads instead of SAE. There are also a few BA threads into the body, for example the screws that hold the locking plates for the hood stick straps. There is even a handful of oddball metric threads, like some of the instrument mounting studs and the overdrive lockout switches/plugs in the gearbox top cover.

Thanks for the info guys. Might be a good spreadsheet project to do while I rebuild this car. The hardware is just down the street.

Go ahead. This place is very cool. I'll have to take pics the next time I'm in.
