TR2/3/3A TR3A Furflex

Hi, I have questions about installation of the Furflex.

What is holding the Furflex at the inner rocker panel? Is there a board? Carpet? or just vinyl?

Also at the ends, does the furflex ends at the capping level or at the body steel level?

Thanks

Yvan - This is what mine looks like. It's the same as the original ones were. The fur-flex is secured down the "A" post with 4 screws through the carpet for the side-wall and down the "B" post there are 3 screws to hold the fur-flex. These 3 screws are the same ones which secure the interior trim panel for the rear "dog-leg".

I cut the top ends for the small ones for the "B" posts before I put them into the TR. I cut out about 3/8" of the inner black rubber and folded the red exterior trim back into the center hole for the top. At the bottom of the "B" post I left it flush with the top of the aluminium sill cover. For the front fur-flex up the "A" post. I did nothing to fold back the outer trim down into the center hole. These are #4 straight slot screws.

Edit - Now looking at the photo, I believ that the bottom end of the "A" post has been turned into the center hole to give a neat and clean finish.

And the top of the ends for the "B" posts is about level with the white trim you see in my TR3A. Note the 3 tiny screws.

Thanks Don,

Looking at your pictures A post and B post furflex are two separate pieces. I tought it was a one piece from a to b post also including the inner rocker panel???

What is this gray piece covering the inner rocker panel then?

Is there furflex elswere on the car or just on the A and b posts?

Thanks

The piece for the "A" post is about 2 feet long while the one for the "B" post is about 10 inches long.

I double checked my 1958 TR3A yesterday and all 8 ends have been tucked back inside the hole on the central rubber tubing for a neat appearance.

For the "A" post it goes up the door and bends to follow the curve all the way to the top end.

I seem to remember that the "original" pieces for the "A" posts were glued to pieces of masonite about 1/8" thick and about 2" wide all the way up - before instalation to hold it all nicely while you are trying to insert the tiny screws through the carpet, then the hole in the masonite.

The grey piece along the inside of the inner sill is made of aluminium. This trim covers the area shown in the photos above and is a flat alum. piece witha vry nice smooth curve where it goes ober the vetical flanges where the inner and out sills have been welded together. I can't find the part number but - if you're interested, I have a brand new set but they are made of shiny stainless steel. I bought them but never used them because I wanted my TR to be as "original" as I could get it, so I bought others in aluminium.

Since I was noodling around my glovebox earlier, here's one more pic to add to Don's, by the instrument panel.....

Furflex? Must be an English word.... Never heard before?

The Brits sometimes call it "Draught excluder" because it excludes or prevents drafts from coming into the car. In a TR I could never figure out why they are needed. We always have out tops down and any drafts we experience come over the top of the door, etc.

I spoke to a nice lady at Woolies on the phone and received mine from them by mail from England about 5 days later.

My experience matches yours Don. Very friendly, and willing to work with me over the phone - also tried to get the best shipping rate but unfortunately most of there stuff is big and bulky so can cost a little.

This is a quite old post, but rather than start a new one I have one thing to ask. Here's a not so great picture of what I think is a rivet. It was holding the remnants of a piece of furflex. If so do I take it out and replace with a screw when I install my new furflex. I couldn't tell but I didn't see that on Don's pics. If any one has a good 'original' pic that might help me decide the best way to do it.

After looking this shows the rivet.
