TR2/3/3A TR3A front engine seal?

Folks,

While replacing the radiator in my TR3a. I noticed oil deposits on the front of the engine, and surrounding frame members. The engine was rebuilt a bit over a year ago.

My assumption is the front engine seal is leaking, even though I am sure it was replaced as part of the engine rebuild.

Is it possible that circumference of the front hub has worn over the years (80,000 miles) and the new seal is too large as a result of the worn hub? I see Moss carries a "speedi-sleeve" to solve the problem, assuming this is my problem.

Thanks.

The seal rides on the pulley hub, not the crankshaft. And yes, if wear on that surface is the problem, a Speedi-sleeve will solve it. (I suspect you can find one much cheaper than Moss, but it might involve actually measuring to find the right one by size.)

But there are lots of other places that can leak a little bit, so I'm not sure the front seal is a good assumption. Just one example, none of the gasket sets seem to include the fiber washer that should go on the post that supports the center of the timing cover. Without it, oil can seep through there.

And------ as brought up many times before here. The area around each of the bolts that hold the cover on tend to get dimpled and prevent the cover from providing a good contact with the block. A good gasket may not be enough to fill the voids and some additional sealant may be needed.

Follow-up: The new seal in the timing cover was not installed properly.
The hub is worm so I will be installing a Speedi-sleeve.

Thanks for the help.
