TR2/3/3A TR3A Control Box

Took this photo at a car show. This was one tired looking TR3A with a rattle-can paint job but I really admired the layout of the wiring loom in the vicinity of the control box.

Do you think this is what they looked like originally (the neat precise routing of the wires)? Mine has excess wire length on those leads because that is how the replacement loom was supplied (on the theory you can always make them shorter). Seeing this inspires me to tidy up that area (and reminds me that even the rattiest TR has something worth appreciating).

George - Mine looks just like that. This is my original harness that I cleaned up during my restoration from 1987 to 1990. A year ago (2007) because some of the covering was getting tattered where it was supposed to be held in the welded clips, I stripped the covering off my harness, sent it to Rhode Island Wiring and they recovered it as original.

Thanks for the nice pix of this area, guys. I was derelict in taking photos while disassembling -- too much crud on my hands to want to handle the camera, and too much "got to get it done" in my head to want to pause for pix. I've been slowly collecting photos from the web, and these are nice ones...

Note that the photos above are for TR2s up to a certain point after my TR3A. For a later TR3A (TS 81551 L), the control box looks like this. Watch out. It depends on your Comm. No. (VIN).

Not to mention whatever sins were committed by a DPO /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I have often wondered why they chose to rotate the Control Box 90 degrees. I think it occurred when they changed the body pressings at 60000 but I see no benefit nor anything that rendered the old position unworkable.

I have sent Don's first photo to Walgreens to have a 4X6 print made... I will prop it up against the firewall when I am ready to tackle my wiring spaghetti bowl...
