Hi Guys,

What color(colour) is this 3A? Says that it is a stock one....if it is, how close is this re-spray to the orginal?

Still looking for paint options for mine and I think that I like it.

I am assuming it is either Cotswold or Salvador Blue. Don't think that it is Medici

Cheers,

Hi Andrew,

That's what I am wondering. It says in the ad that it has 1 respray in the "orginal color"....

Tom, grey is not going to do it for me. I was thinking of doing the blue above with a silver or grey stripe/number plate though...does that count?

Cheers,
M. Pied Lourd

OK - as long as there is some grey in there you are good. Phew, thought I lost you there for a second. LOL.

All kidding aside that is a very sharp looking TR3.

Hi Folks,

It definitely is not "Salvador Blue". Sal. Blue is more of a Sky Blue Color. This is something In-Between a Dk. Blue, Dk. Grey and Salvador Blue. Orig Color? I don`t think so but looks good.

Russ

So I sent an email to the seller today to ask if he might know the name of the color. Unfortunately, he didn't. He did say that the respray was color matched to the paint in the engine bay that was/is original to the car.

I see another color that it might be....what about Cornflower blue? Anyone.....

Cheers,
M. Pied Lourd

Actually, I think it looks pretty close to Valencia Blue. Monaco is another one, but Monaco looks a little too dark I think compared to that car.

Here is a Valencia TR5 I snapped a couple of years ago:

Don't know what color it is ,it sure is purdy though

I love both Valencia and Mallard....a couple of my favorites as well....

Cheers,
Tush

The Cornflower example I have is actually lighter than Valencia, but who knows, it could very well be on that car, depending on lighting conditions.

Edit: I looked at the ebay listing, I'm not sure they did a perfect color match there if you look at the engine bay. I'm going to change my guess to maybe Winchester Blue originally.

Hi Randy,

Looks like Winchester was only available in 57-58.....
Going to go back and look at the engine bay pics again.

Thanks,
David

Valencia is strictly a later 1960s Triumph color. Monaco, a somewhat purply blue, was (I think) peculiar to the early Heralds and probably NOT used on the TR?

A reasonably accurate rendition of Monaco is somewhat visible in the first photo on this page , showing a just-restored early 948 twin-carb Herald convertible in the UK.

Wow, that Herald is purple! Never would have guessed Monaco was that shade. My chip book has its limits!

Yeah, it's an interesting color, and it seems to show very differently, depending on how it's being lit (scan around that web site to see)! It was NOT a very popular color in the United States, I don't think: over the years I've accumulated two early Herald coupés originally in that color -- both repainted red, apparently early on, and I've seen photos of at least one other coupé that had had the exact same treatment (unfortunately, it has since been scrapped)!
