TR2/3/3A TR3A apron badge

I have one of the 3A badges with the BLACK band on the bottom instead of blue. It is in reasonably good condition except for the black enamel band which is chipped. TRF has had this item backordered for a while and unless several people need one I don't expect Mr Runyan will gear up for 1. I recently contacted an enamelor in England that does one of a kinds and badge restoration. While I'm sure it would look great, I'm not sure I can justify the cost (153 pounds... approx 250. us today).
Anyone out there have a good spare they want to part with or another idea?

I have the same problem. I did a little research online and found this method to restore enamel.
Build up a thin layer of JB weld on the areas missing enamel. Fine sand it flat. Then use finger nail polish to paint in the color. Fine sand smooth and cover with clear. Fine sand and polish. I figure it is worth a shot as it will not cost much and the only other option is to pay big $. If it does not work you can always send it in.

Gordon, that's a really rare badge in blue with the black lower band. We didn't receive all that many TR3A's compared to the US, but I've only ever seen one example on a car just after TS41878, when the red/black badge was superseded.

For whatever reason, the black lower band was quickly replaced by the familiar blue lower band.

I was surprised to see in my first ever TRF "Glovebox Companion" in the early 90's that TRF saw sufficient market to make a repro. No other TR suppliers did so.

Hope you find someone to refurb it for you at reasonable cost because even if TRF tooled up again, the current crop of repro badges have been criticized when compared to an original.

Actually, I saw 2 of them today. One is on my TR3A (TS47905) and the other a 3A that showed up at our British Car Week Phantom Car Show (TS43nnn).

They seemed to have been used for only a couple of months in the Spring of '59.

Maybe they found it would cost less to eliminate one color from the new scheme.

Yes, the cars all seem to be from early 59. My car TS46645 left England on April 8,1959 bound for Forida.
I have not seen any of TRF's repro nose badges, but I do know that Mr. Runyan is a stickler for originality as well as quality.

Wow, they made a LOT of cars in 59. According to Piggott the first off the line was 41668 and the last 65124. It appears several of these pesky things appeared throughout!
