TR2/3/3A tr3 wire wheels

Yes, they will. I'm using Dayton TR4 wheels on my TR6, the spline drive is the same size on the whole triumph model line. The width of the wheel and the number of spokes varied, but all the wheels will work on all the triumphs in actuality.

I don't believe that is correct. All the 'big' Triumphs shared spline sizes (TR2-6, Stag, etc) but I believe the Spitfire and GT6 were different.
 
The splines are all the same diameter. But the adapter on a spit/gt6 is shorter than the adapter for a TR.
 
Splines all the same dia on Triumph wire wheels. As SD said the Spit/GT6 adapters are shorter so the 13" wheels will only fit the the Spit/GT adapters. All the course thread spinners and hex heads will interchange. TR6 72 spokes will fit on the TR3, they will look a little big but thats the individuals taste.
 
The only issue will be getting one in the spare wheel opening....

:laugh: I have 72 spoke 5.5" wires w 185 tires on my TR3. It certainly won't fit in the spare tire compartment. The original wire with a 165 tire on just fits. If you have a pre 60k body, then even a 165 has trouble fitting...have to go to a 155.

When I was first doing the restoration, I thought about making that opening and compartment larger, but soon came to my senses.
 
going to pick them up sunday. for the spair i will just use the factory iron wheel . cant see it anyway

IIRC, chrome wires were never listed as an official factory option. However, they were available on special order and there have been documented examples of cars so equipped.

At the time, though, they were considered inferior to the painted version, as the chrome weakened the spokes. Modern "chrome" wire wheels use stainless steel spokes (only the hub and wheel are chromed).

(And then I'm not sure the steel wheel will fit on the shortened studs). Find a 48 spoke wire wheel, mount a 165 15 tire & you'll have a spare that fits in your spare hole and will get you home.

Good point, Frank. You can install the steel wheels on the shortened studs, but it won't be as strong as it should be. The steel wheel nuts are not fully threaded inside so they need the longer studs. And you need to switch nuts because the ones for the splined adapter are smaller in diameter and apt to pull through the steel wheels.

But even a 165 tire is a really tight fit in the early (pre 60K) wheel wells. I eventually got tired of fighting it every time, and used a "compart spare" from the junkyard instead.
 
I have a 155 for the spare on my 57, 165 on the wires. But then my car hasn't moved in 7 years, so what do I know?
