TR2/3/3A TR3 Windscreen Stanchion Swap?

Funny how things are so much more obvious when the parts are cleaned up and going back on...

...After paying lots of $ to re-chrome it, and carefully installing it back on the windscreen, I just realized that the right windscreen stanchion that came off the car is the earlier design.

Ooops!!

Is there anyone out there that has a post 60k right side stanchion that they wouldn't mind selling/swapping for a right side pre 60k stanchion? Or maybe have a line on someone who does?

Thanks,

John

John-

I might have something, I had a few spares kicking around - does your post 60K stanchion have any insert at all? There were several versions of these things, you might want to post a shot of the good one you have to match against.

Randy

Thanks Randy,

I will post some pics in a day or so when I download the camera...

OK, here is the left stanchion, which is correct for a later TR3:

And here is the earlier stanchion that has the slot, that I assume was for the earlier fastening prior to the screws:

The good news is that I tried the fit, and the correct stanchion has almost the same 1/2" air gap that the wrong one has. I think I can live with it if I can't get a replacement!?!

At least it looks much better than when it came off...

Yes, I own at least three versions of the later stanchions as shown in this thread. One of them is a match for for the correct one you need. Unfortunately, it's also the left side. Also, that little wing that gets screwed on to hold the rubber in place is different for the different style later stanchions. I beleive that there is one style that doesn't even have that. For what it's worth, I have the later stanchions on my car, and they are two different styles. I left off the little wing and once they are screwed on, you can't tell the difference.

Well, what I have will work while I look for a later version right side...

And Art, you're thread reminded me...what does the tenon plate do? I notice that mine has little set screw markings where something has been attached previously. The same little markings are all along the rear edge of the windscreen frame on the top.

John

The set screw marks on the tenon plate are almost certainly from wind wings.

The marks on the top edge may be some sort of clamp-on sun visors.

John -

That looks pretty good, and really for the chrome work you did it should work fine. The only minor difference I think you have it the passenger side will have a small slot visible on the back if you don't have a stanchion plate on the body to fill the gap.

Sent you a pm with a couple of pics of what I have.
