All the sidescreen cars had the option of a rear seat. If you're referring to the change to the "flat" are behind the front seats, that was one of the many post-TS60000 body changes.

On the earlier cars, when the optional rear seat (or package shelf) was fitted, it included two metal brackets for support. One end was bolted to a captive nut in the floor, the other to a captive nut in the vertical section just to the rear of the floor.
I just took my home-made imitation of the factory seat off of my wrecked 3A yesterday. If anyone wants a photo, now is the time to speak up. Otherwise I'll probably return it to the scrap bins. If I decide to add a rear "seat" to the TR3, I'll probably copy a friend's storage chest instead.

Andy: I'm not trying to be a know it all :blush: , but actually TR2's did not have the provision for an occasional seat. These were first available with the first TR3, TS8637, in October 1955 the point in production when the gas tank was made smaller allowing the necessary room. The occasional seat continued to be available until the end of the side screen run, through the last TR3B, TCF2804, October 1961.

Frank, you're right. (THAT oughta teach me to look it up first!) Interestingly, though, about the only color choice for the optional rear seat upholstery that is NOT listed is Geranium; pretty much all the other early trim colors were offered.
<anorak alert>My Third Edition SPC does not list any change of fuel tank part numbers @ TS8637, although it does list changes in the "Strap, tank to body" at 8637 and again at 22014. Meanwhile, a later SPC (exact edition unknown, as that page is missing!) does list a change in fuel tank (possibly at 8637, but that's not absolutely clear). Of course, there was a further change at 60001, but that's not as relevant here.</anorak alert>

My 4th edition, 3rd amendment SPC is the same way. No change point given between tank 301325 and 302125.Andrew Mace said:
ISTR the change in the straps involved the way that the panel in front of the tank was attached. TR3s had an extra bracket build into the strap, that helped support the panel. The early 3A straps just had a piece of felt glued to them instead.
