I am replacing all the self desinigrated rubber boots on my front end and noticed the upper inner A arm bushings are pretty soft squeaky rubber,so I am going to replace with urethane.
Moss has prothane-urethane,and urethane.Online description is same for both, but prothane shows metal sleeves, urethane bushings look plain, and cheaper. My fulcrum pins are a little pitted, but look pretty good,no ridges.
Any feed back appreciated, leaning toward urethane.
Also surfing led me to a forum post by Don Elliot showing added grease fittings to A arms for urethane bushings.Do these bushings really require additional grease after assembly.
Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom - typically the poly/urethane bushings do not require additional lubrication once assembled provided you use a good amount of the specific grease they require upon assembly. Do not use regular grease - use the stuff that comes in the package or as specified (lithium grease typically).

All the bushings will use the metal sleeve, just may not be pictured.

I think you will find the poly bushings will tighten up the handling quite nicely - they also last longer. Opinions vary, but personally I never put rubber bushings on since they just don't seem to last very long these days.

Don't be shy about asking questions.

Need to recheck my memory if I'm wrong, but on the upper inner bushings you typically do not have the metal sleeves. Lower inner yes, though..

Randy, just got back from mailbox and new Moss cat.arrived with different(better) descriptions than online.
They show urethane, slightly stiffer than rubber,no sleeves, and prothane with sleeves. Now I am leaning to prothane, but was hoping to get some more info before I order.
Thanks
Tom

Oh man - I messed up. Sorry Tom, and thanks Randy. (the non-sleeve parts of the above are correct however)

Tom, from experience, I suggest using poly upper bushes without the sleeves. Clean up the fulcrum pins and as said, use the white lube that comes with the bushes on the pins.(The solid bushes with sleeves are good for racing, but a harder ride for road use).

Don't lube the outer surface of the poly bushes - that needs to grip in the arm sockets so the suspension rotates on the pins.

With poly bushes, grease fittings aren't needed on the top arms - they can't lube the fulcrum pins.

Get the two piece per side poly bushes (like the original rubber bushes). You can instal these without taking the coil springs out. A trolley jack under the spring pan is all that's needed. (plus backup safety blocks under the frame).

Regards,

Viv
