TR3 upgraded cams & richer SU needles?Advice?

Anybody installed a "street cam" and then switched to a richer needle? According to Kas Kastner ,the TR guru, this is advisable. The RH .100 needle is recommended I think. Also with the tube header causing better flow he also recommends going 2 flats richer. I realize that all engines, cams, and mods are slightly different and often require fine tuning. If there are TR3 owners out there who can comment on what they've done it might help me dial in my SU,s. Karl PS I've heard that there are 300 needle variations and that with an exhaust analyzer and computer you can pinpoint the optimum needle and really Waken Up an engine that you thought was running OK.

Anytime you change from stock you will have a "learning curve" before you get things right...I've been there more times than I care to remember...and since I'm getting an E85-fueled blown Chrysler Hemi ready for street use (daily driver) I know I'll be doing the same thing this summer.

You will need to richen the mixture whenever you improve airflow on the intake or exhaust side.

There are two ways to do it....go too far on the rich side and then lean it out until it's right OR take two steps at a time until you get too rich then back it down a notch until it's correct. On my vehicles (bikes, snowmobiles, racers) I would always take small steps until I got it right.

Be prepared for some long tuning sessions and having lots of spares around when you are done...it's part of the game.

What kind of project are you putting that big Hemi into just out of curiousity?

Thats an impressive mill...I have to ask: What kind of HP will it put out? Dodge? Not sure what year half ton that is looking at it from that angle? Will you be able to fit the motor in without modifying the hood?.....I think there was a lot of clearance in that area back in the day.

It's a '56 Ford F-100. Chopped 6"...shortened to a 100" wheelbase...I'm using a shortened early 50's GMC box...MOPAR torsion-bar front suspension.

The engines a '56-vintage 354 Industrial block (it was an irrigation pump in Oklahoma when I got it), '55 hi-port passenger car heads, bored +.060, 6-71 Jimmy blower, Clay Smith hydraulic blower cam, MOPAR A-833 4 speed with overdrive, 3.54 MOPAR 9 1/4 " rear, yada, yada, yada....

There's actually plenty of room for the engine, blower and carbs...not sure about an air cleaner!
