TR2/3/3A TR3 Tube Removal

I am getting ready to remove the tub from my 1959 TR3.
Besides bracing between doors and across the top is there
anything else I need to do? I have the split steering column.
Do I take it apart at the coupling? Do I mark the tub
and frame to assure alinement when I replace it?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Greg

Greg, how are you taking it off and what are you going to put it on once it's off?

Hi Dick,
I was going to have a few buddies lift it off and put it on a trailer and haul it to a guy who does sheet metal work [floor pans and trunk bottom]. Then on to the body shop.

My advise is to leave it on the frame until the floorpans and inner rockers are replace. This will assure correct alignment later. Otherwise, it's a crap shoot.

Bingo Peter! My thoughts exactly, still needs to be braced of course.

Take lots of pictures!

What I did on mine was to remove the body, with all the necessary bracing, and put it on a wood dolly. Take care of the all the frame work, install new springs, get new tires etc., then when finished put the body shell back on and carryout out the floor pan/sill work on its permanent foundation. You'll get better panel gaps this way. Thanks!

Greg - Check out the photos of how I did mine from 1987 to 1990 on the Montreal TR web site. Note that with the wheels off, I put the supports directly under the axle cenerlines so the gaps would be parallel and so they would stay that way when I lowered the car onto its wheels again. It came out perfect.

Since then, I've had a ball driving it a little more than 100,000 miles.
