Will a bare TR3 tub fit in a full-size pick-up bed with a cap?

Thanks!

What size is the bed and how tall is the cap?

Well, the bed is 8 feet long, I think. Dunno how wide. The cap sticks up above the cab maybe six inches or so.

Really don't feel like going out there and measuring, but...

Just eyeballing the photos, though, looks like it would fit. Imagine no fenders or doors...

Just hoping some BCFer has experimented with this.

I put mine in a 6x12 Uhaul trailer for its trip to metal work. It made it by inches and I mean inches. If the fenders (front and back) were attached the body would be too long. Had plenty of width though. Mine was on a wood sled I made to roll it around the garage. The wood frame wedged nicely to stop for/aft movement. I just added some lateral support to stop it from sliding sideways.

I have an 2006 full size Chevy truck and I have hauled several TR-3 Tubs many miles without a problem. The back of the TR-3 up against the cab and the inner fenders hanging out the back. Plenty of clearence between the wheelwells. Be sure to attach a red flag to what ever hangs out. Last year I sold a TR-3 tub to a fellow in Indiana, he and a buddy drove 1800 miles one way to pick it up with his extended cab Chevy. They loaded up the tub, chatted for about an hour, got back in their truck and headed back to Fort Wayne as they only had four days off work. That guy wanted a rust free TR-3 tub pretty bad and I applaud his enthusiam. They called to confirm that they did arrive safely back in Indiana. He asked if he was crazy for doing such a crazy spur of the moment trip? I assured him the I have done simular trips and I am sure other members of the Forum have done the simular crazy things to obtain a part for your car that you have searched years for. Good Luck, Bill Close, Mesa, Az.

Many years ago when I was still in College, I bought a TR3 in Auburn. We put it in the bed of a F150, the back wheels sat on the tail gate. Drove 250 miles home like that. Couldn't get over 50 miles an hour or the truck would start swaying, it was a tad overloaded.

Thanks for the replies.

It appears, especially from alfa's post, that it is possible, so I'll give it a shot.

I'll take photos.

John, do us a favor. Have someone else do the lifting.
You do the pic taking.

10-4, Don.

I have explained to the guy that I CANNOT help lift at all. I have rounded up two, possibly three lifters. Along with the seller and his friend, that should be enough.

Thanks for your concern.

We bought my replacement TR4A tub and hauled it back in the back of full size truck (inner shell, front suspension and rear suspension/IRS). Not a TR3 but I believe the TR4A is a little wider and it fit.

I would worry about the cap as I seem to recall it sticking up pretty high due to the wheel wells in the truck. I would take the cab off to be safe or rent a trailer.

This thread is no longer useless.

I picked up the TR3 tub for BRSlimited today. It did indeed fit in the truck. It did not quite fit between the wheel wells, however. The bed liner prevented that. It hung out the back some, as you can see.

Thanks to my helpers, left to right: Joel Rosen, Joel's friend whose name I didn't get, Mike The Mad Rocket Scientist.

Thanks again for the help and be sure to thank your friends that helped you. I'll take you guys out to lunch when I get down there to pick it up. By the looks of the picture if it wasn't a mid rise topper it wouldn't have fit.

I was wondering if there was a happy ending to this story.
