Hello tr3 people. What weight oil do you people think I should put in a non-overdrive tr3 transmission?

George

Just switched from 30 wt to Red Line ML 90 for my 1964 Healey and think it is an improvement (easier shifting). Red Line is relatively expensive, about $9 a quart, and not many places carry it. It is synthetic and has a tendancy to leak a little more than 30 wt oil. If you have a leaky tranny, you may not want to try Red Line.

The factory specified 80-90 hypoid, the only arguement I have ever heard is on OD trannies. Different marques specified different oils for the same OD unit and confused every one.....
On old boxes add some STP(20%) works wonders unless its too cold.....

Some use non-deterent engine oil with the rule of thumb 'same weight as you're using in the engine'.

I have used Redline for many years in all the cars and am quite satisfied.
