I am curious what kind of tool people use to put in an oil seal in the front cover of a tr3 transmission. Is there a special way/tool or do most people use the appropriate size socket? Those little rubber seals usually give me trouble, I can never get them to go in straight.

sp53, I try to use a short flat bar a couple inches across and tap lighly, until it starts, then use the socket. A socket works OK, if a bit of a pain to hit it straight. Wayne

I tape a poly bag over the splines to keep the sharp corners of the spline from cutting into and ruining the new seal. Or you could wrap the splines with masking tape. Dont forget the copper washers that seal the 4 bolts too.

Yes thanks Troadster. How about getting them out do you just use a brass drift and pound them out one side at a time.
