TR2/3/3A TR3 Trailer

I want to build a trailer for my TR3, from a very dead (unrestorable) TR3. My idea is to take the large mouth and headlights from a TR3 and attach it between the rear fenders. The nose I have, the fenders I can get, but does anyone have a dead body of a TR3 hanging around, p /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gifreferably in the western US?

That would be a TRailer. I have a photo of one made from the back half of a TR3... actually from the scuttle rearward. Had the advantage of being able to use a stock tonneau cover over the cargo area.

Cool idea!

My green TR3 has a trailer hitch, and I was wondering what type of trailer I could pull just to get people staring.

My idea was to make a Spridget trailer as a joke.

The TRailer that I pull behind my TR3 is not a trailer but a travel trunk. (Shoreline motorcycle trailer)

I'd like to see the photo. Exactly where is the scuttle?

I was wanting to build it so the curve of the front apron would fit the curve of the rear fender. I will have to cut the apron and add some metal, the distance between the 2 rear fenders is 1 1/2 inches wider than the apron is.

Would you post a picture of the hitch attachment points? Been thinking about making one for our 3A and 4A for a small trailer. Thanks. PeterK

[/ QUOTE ]I hope I'm not misunderstanding what you propose to do. But given the value of good TR body panels, what about fabricating "filler" panels on either side of the apron to account for that extra width, rather than hack up a good apron. Just a thought.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/computer.gif

Andy, not to worry, the apron I have is not of any great quality.

Sometimes called a cowl. Basically the body & frame appear to have been cut at the firewall.

Here is a tantalizingly out-of-focus grainy pic:

The line along the bottom of the wing suggests some modification back there too. When you think of the passenger compartment, removed tank & boot you'll realize that this trailer had quite a large capacity.

Can anybody guess at what/whom that fellow is pointing?

thats considerably longer than what I want to build. Mine would start right at the back of the passenger compartment, giving me the trunk space, plus where the fuel tank is, plus a little space in front of that.

Someone suggested that I could cool the tire compartment and use it for a wine celler.

I love the basic idea, but it deserves much thought. If the trailer winds up weighing too much it will make for some serious handling problems. As with all trailers you MUST have tounge weight at the hitch so plan carefully. From bitter experience I can tell you that a TR3 should never tow something heavy(especially if its snowing)(and you are out of wine)
