Hi,
My understanding is that the adapter is required to fit the TR3 fan hub. Unfortunately, they are NLA from the big three so you need to hope one comes up on eBay, which is not as often as the fan itself.
I do not have direct experience here but, have read and researched quite a bit here for my TR4A.

The yellow 6 blade fan will be a direct fit. Many people here have done it. Maybe one of the other TR3 owners who have done this actual conversion can weigh-in.
For my TR4A I can bolt it on but clearance to the TR4A radiator is a bit close. Many TR4A owners solve this by a) mounting it backwards or b) installing the shorter TR3 fan hub.

The yellow fan doesn't fit all TR3s. I tried and tried and it still interfered with the chassis cross brace. Forwards or backwards, it doesn't fit. Some have stacked 1/2" of washers behind it (the yellow fan) to add clearance so I'm not the only one.
I'm running a BMW 2002 tii red plastic fan on my 3A. I had to elongate the four mounting holes but ... it fits nicely otherwise.

Not much info on the red fan13 blades,,mostly about the yellow,6 blades.
Red fan looks like it would fit,but thats why I asked,dont want to buy to find out.I can make an adapter,but that doesnt help if it hits cross member.
Hoping for other replies related to both fans.

On my TR3, the yellow fan fits backwards on the stock crank extension. It <span style="font-style: italic">might just</span> squeak in right-way-'round, but it was too close to call when I was assembling the car. In any event, I was still planning to use the wide fan belt at the time, and there would be no way at all to install one on the car with the fan that close to the radiator. Actually, I don't think one could install a narrow belt on my car, were the fan facing forward.
With it on backwards, it barely clears the frame cross tube -- but it does clear. While the narrow fan belt easily fits between the rad and the fan -- a wide one would too -- it involves some trickery and engine rotation to get a narrow fan belt through between the cross tube and the back of the fan. It took me a little time to establish the technique, but it works.

Mounting the fan backwards, contrary to logic, does not change rotation or airflow. If the blades are flat, it doesn't change much of anything, dependent on pitch. If they're curved, or greatly pitched, quantity of air (cfm) will change, but direction of airflow will not. Only way to reverse airflow is to reverse direction of rotation.
