TR2/3/3A tr3 timing gears

Hello tr3 people has anyone purchased new timing gears from any of the big 3 recently. I used my old ones because I had heard about the reproductions having the holes drilled wrong and as a result causing timing problems. The gears I am using have become kinda pointed on the ends, but what the heck. I guess what I am asking is how many people out there are using their old timing gears without any problems.

My sprockets for the timing chain are 48 years old and no problems. But I've changed the timing chain tensioner about every 15,000 - 20,000 miles or so.

Thanks Don I was hoping you would say something like that. How about the chain did you replace that with the tensioner.

I changed the timing chain at 80,350 miles because it was all apart when I was doing a 3-year restoration from 1987 to 1990. It was fine, but I changed it anyway. This one is still fine after another 87,000 miles in 16 summers with no problems.

kent cams makes a replacement set with adjustable cam sprocket. i would go with this since it is adjustable and a matched set. you could get the adjustable sprocket from bpnorthwest wich looks like a cambridge motorsport sprocket. your chain will wear out faster with worn sprockets. i would not re-use the sprockets with a new chain. if you want accuracy in timing the cam, go adjustable. with worn sprockets, the timing is not accurate, the slop from worn sprockets lets the chain move back and forth, deceleration also will give different timing. remember that when installing the cam sprocket that is can be flipped to help index it.
