Help! I was trying to locate a valve train tap which I thought might be a stuck tappet. I had the rockershaft off and gently pulled up on the number 2 pushrod, when oops! it seems I pulled the tappet out of place. It fell out of the way of its home as I can see the cam lobe through the pushrod hole. How do I go about fixing this foul-up? Please tell me that all I will need to do is drop the oil pan, find the tappet and replace!?

Its for sure not in the pan, its trapped in that space in the upper part of the block. Worst case is pulling the head, but hopefully with patience you can just fish a little and get it back in position. Might be worth it to carefully pull the adjacent push rod to get you room to coax it into the correct area. Maybe one of those little magnets on an extension will help?

Thats what I would suggest....a little extendable pick up tool with a magnet on the end.

Cheers,
M. Pied Lourd

:iagree:
Yup, the magnet is the tool, though you might need one with a flexible shaft. If you can find one of those, you'll get your tappet, for sure...

Whew!

Took a coat hangar and was able to fish it back into position.

Then....went to put the rocker shaft on and wound up cracking one of the pedestals.

Thanks for the help folks...any advice on new pedestals?
