Has anyone heard of a supplier that has the little sub-wiring harness that goes from the generator to the regular box on a tr3? In addition and please forgive me for asking a Saab question (the mechanics are better on this forum) my ABS light comes after 20 miles per hour, any ideas?

Don't know who has the sub-harness for the generator, but you could call British Wiring. They should be able to help.

As far as the Saab goes, since it's speed related, the first place to start is with the wheel sensors. There are sensors on each wheel that senses the rotation by a cogged ring either on the axle shaft or inside the disc rotor. Very often dirt on the sensor or between the cogs messes up the signal. Also, most good mechanics have the readout equipment that should be able to tell you what is wrong. It's just like the OBDII readouts when you get a engine CEL.

Thanks for your note Matrix 5 and I am kinda old school and not sure of the initials you describe. One problem with the old Saab is that it is an 89 9000 and the computer stuff for the Abs systems analysis did not come out until 92, but the Saab central forum maintains that I can just swap in a 92 computer, and it will tell the tail. I have never swapped out or in a computer before. I do know where it is and it is easy to get at. I am just chicken. I guess I should join the brave new world and use some of this diagnostic stuff. Having said all that when I purchased the vehicle the abs light was on and with my new found OCD (I learn that on the forum too) I replaced the front sensor that was broken and now have the light turned off until 20 mph. More problematic, these are the old sensors that are adjustable and adjusted to .65 so perhaps I can lower or raise it and clean off the knurled disc and see. As said, I am just chicken and afraid that I will mess it up more if I swap out the computer because the units electrical hookups look well sealed from the factory and I did not want to disturb the factory moister seal. See the chicken.

You might want to check the gap on the sensors. I know that some of the speed measuring stuff we have at work that use the same technology are very sensitive to proper adjustment. I'm assuming that the .65 measurement you're giving is in millimeters...that would give .025", which sounds about right. Check out the gaps and see if they're within spec.

BTW, the other 'initials' I used were refering to the On Board Diagnostics Version 2 (OBDII) and Check Engine Light (CEL). Both related to engine diagnostics.

I'm old school also, but I try to keep up with this newer stuff so I don't get slammed when I bring my 'modern' cars in for repair. Knowledge is power!

Good thinking Matrx-5. I think you are going to be my new best friend. Anyways I unknowingly took the .65 out of Haynes manual and I assume it could easily be in millimeters and then I set them with a feel gauge at .65 inches, I think. WOW I hope you right. I will let you know.

Aloha,

Regarding your question about a TR3 sub harness between the generator and the regulator, I have always seen these incorporated into the main harness as part of the run with the head light, etc. going to the right front of the engine compartment.

British Wiring can most likely supply the bits for you to make your own. Perhaps they might make one for you if you ask, the worst that can happen is they say no.
