TR2/3/3A Tr3 steering rebuild

I am still working on the front suspension, but I'm waiting on a few parts that I forgot and/or didn't know that I would need. I am also going to rebuild the steering box and replace tie rod ends and such.

So while I have the passenger side suspension out(left hand drive). Should I go ahead and take at least that side of the steering apart and work on it? When I do I assume that the best idea is to mark or measure the tie rod ends, as to replace them in the same way or length that they were removed? What is a good way to do this (understanding a 50 year old grime issue)?

I do 3 things -- after first cleaning up the threads and such with a wire brush and assorted cleaners.

1 - I put a dab of paint on the front of the rod for reference

2 - I take a digital photo of how the threads look (& get that dab of paint in the pic).

3 - I count the number of threads along some specific point on the rod (sort of a back-up plan). Couny either innies or outies & note which you did and what surface (top, bottom or front).

But all this assumes that the alignment was fine before and that none of the parts or other changes will affect alignment -- so step 4 is to do an alignment using one of the many DIY methods in archives.

Geo that's kinda what I had planned and just wanted to see what everyone's opinion or process was. I feel like the alignment was close and at least will give me a good starting point. And yes finally alignment.
