TR2/3/3A TR3 Starter Lubrication

Can anyone tell me what type of lubrication, if any, should be put on both the flywheel end of a late TR3 starter (non-bomb type), and inside the cap on the opposite end? Thank you.

I soaked the rear bearing in oil but put the cap on dry.

I lightly lubed (I mean real light) the grooves where the gear-thingy rotates back just to be sure it moved freely.

But that is just 'what I did', may or may not be best.
 
The bushings at both ends are Oilite and can be re-soaked in oil. Mop up any excess though, you don't want it finding it's way to the brushes.

The shop manual warns against using lubricant on the drive, but I used "dry moly"

Thanks Randall. So on the brush end, its OK to spray a little bit dry lube on the tip of the shaft that turns as long as you wipe off the excess? Inside the cap that fits over the shaft, there appears to be some old dried up white grease when I assume doesn't belong there.

Spraying on the end with the starter assembled isn't going to do much, but probably won't hurt either. Same goes for the grease.
