I am trying to fit the stainless exhaust system that came with my car.No visible brand. After fitting the header, with some heat and tweaking to line up with rear hanger ,it looks like the first muffler inlet pipe is about 2-3 inches short in the front to position the Z bend centered in inlet and outlet of frame.I am thinking of having muffler shop weld on a stub.
I am not sure if this will throw the next pipe off,but it looks like that is the solution.
Has anyone had similar issues?
Thanks
Tom

Oh yeah - many a time. But my solution always involved driving with open headers and the pipes in the trunk to the nearest muffler shop.

So I thought 'sure I understand that', but I couldn't get why you went to the muffler shop.... then I figured it out... your girlfriend works there ! right? :jester:

Thanks guys. I am heating, tweaking one bend at time, and it looks like I might be able to make it fit.Driving to shop is not an option, but a least the body is off the car. This would be way worse lying on my back,or even on a lift.I am suprised that there is no hanger between mufflers.
Thanks
Tom

OK, seriously... good you are making progress. Which TR is getting new pipes?
My only personal experience with SS performance systems is on a Cabriolet and a GTI (both 1985's) Those systems were both actually too long at the last hanger under the rear valance, but good enough. (on the VW you need to get the arch of the pipe over the axle bar centered or it rattles). I will be sorting out my 57 TR3 this spring, so what you learn could help me. thanks.

I put a Falcon SS on my 4A. Laying on my back it didn't look right but was hard to see the whole picture. A muffler shop ended up bending the pipes to make it fit and also fabricated a couple of muffler hangers. Good luck.

This is for a 59 TR3 with post 6k body.My guess is its whatever TRF sold 5 + years ago,as that seemed to the po's source for a lot of parts, but who knowsw. It is actually a very nice looking assembly ,if I can make it fit and not hit.
thanks
Tom

Got my Falcon SS from TRF about that time. It fit perfectly but twisting the pipes (rotating not heating or bending) helped things line up.

Thanks Peter. The header pipe outlet was about 1 1/2 to far toward the frame center to line up with the cruciform hanger.BTW TRF had the correct gommets for the hanger with inner steal sleeves.I pulled it out to line up but to much pressure,so relaxed bend below manifold flange with heat. Two benzomatics, one in each hand, gets a nice red ring.Deffinately a fiddly fit ,with some more muffler twisting to come. After looking at the prices of this system I am glad it came with the car .
Thanks
Tom
