TR2/3/3A TR3 Spin-on Oil Filter

My TR3 came with spin-on filter. Looks like it should take PH2825 according to stamped code on case. Filter on there now is AMS Performance FO-217 (can't find anything about that filter via Google to cross reference). Anyone know anything about the AMS filter? Assume PH2825 or equivalent should be fine.

Mike - I have heard that many TR owners who put on a spin-on filter complain about the oil leaking via the rubber seal - too wide, not wide enough, wrong diameter match between seal and the flat flange for the seal, etc. So measure all these details from the filter and base you show and make sure the Fram (or others you check) have these seals in the same place etc. If this one worked without any leaks, then any filter with the same seal diameter etc,. should also work without leaking.
 
I have used the spin-ons for more than a decade on 2 TRs w/o any leaks. FWIW - I use Fram PH2870A or equivalent.

I do paint them so they appear less shocking in the engine compartment:

If you work ahead you can let the paint dry for a year or two and then it holds up quite well even if oil or fuel drip on it. IIRC the adaptors I used were Mocal.

And that sort of planning is why, amount other reasons, we hold you in such high esteem.
 
Someone must have actually stamped PH2825 into the original oil filter housing. It's a good way to remember the proper filter.

Anyway, this is a cross-ref for Mocal spin-on adapters that are commonly sold by the big 3. Notice that PH2825 is not listed so maybe your Flotec adapter is different than this.

I use WIX 516 or NAPA Gold 1516(same as Wix)
 
Thanks Geo. Colour-coordinated oil filters ... look nice! I tend not to think that far ahead, but I could try :smile: I'll measure that filter that is there now and compare with Fram cross-reference dimensions.

Don, maybe the leaking is deliberate to match the original equipment look!

Balderdash - Real men consider it a badge of courage to have warm oil running down the arm!! To say nothing of trying to line up that slippery canister and have it bonk you on the forehead!!

Geo have you no shame to green paint the spin on filter?
