I was out for a Sunday cruise along a winding river road and just as I congratulated myself on how wonderfully the car was finally running ...the speedo quit at that very instant!Needle went to zero. Has it finally packed it in or are there some minor repairs that can be done? What's the best way to track down the problem? Any advice most welcome. Karl

Were you having problems with the needle bouncing? If so the cable could have snapped. Or it could have come unscrewed from on back the speedo. If you have to get the speedo repaired it's a very good idea to get a new speedo cable too. I did and it does not bounce a bit.

More likely IMO the cable failed. Unscrew it from the back of the speedo, and see if the inner cable turns when you move the car.

My cable was not attached at the tail housing when I got it and the hole for the spedo bearing has a blanking plug in it. I have to assume that there is a problem with the gear, but I haven't gone so far as to remove the tail housing to find out. That's a winter job I suppose.

I have a TR4A in my garage awaiting restoration. Is there any reason I cant use that speedo cable in my TR3? Actually I have a TR6 trans in my 3 but these gearboxs are quite similar and I'm thinking it might work?

If both are non-OD, then I think it will fit. Moss even lists them as the same part number.
