Now that I have the rear springs out this is a good time to change it. Problem is I just changed it maybe 6 years ago and I was surprised that when I got it that it was like the original felt seal. Shortly after I installed it it started leaking again. With the rear end up slightly higher then the front end and nothing supporting the rear axel there is a mess all over the floor.

My question is is there a modern rubber seal with the spring available and where?

I changed mine 2years ago and it definitely wasn't a felt seal. It was rubber with the spring. I got mine from TRF. I did make a video at the time, unfortunately , I didn't take note of the part number...

Yeah, I think they might have been leather (Chicago rawhide). I know the seals in my TR6 diff were at one point.

I think so too but it's hard to tell after 50+years. The one I have has fibers that look a bit like felt but are probably just decaying leather. The front wheel seals were felt though, I think.

I've only seen rubber seals as new for many years now. Sounds like you must've found a NOS seal, and it was dried out from old age.
Looks like RockAuto has a National brand seal on close-out. Only one left!

Nope. It was a OUS (old used seal) from a teadown that never got put back together. I don't throw much away. Tom

It could have been old stock. I got it from our local LBC supplier that sells Moss and whenever he can get some buyouts.
