TR2/3/3A TR3 rear axle noise

I need some opinions on what this problem could be. I have a "whump" sound coming from my left rear wheel area. The sound speeds up as the car accelerates. The car has wire wheels on it. The sound has been there for a while, but today after an 80 mile round trip it has become much more pronounced. Any ideas as to what it could be would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Most likely, IMO is the splined adapter coming loose from the axle. DON'T DRIVE IT ANOTHER FOOT UNTIL YOU CHECK THIS.

Other possibilities include wheel loose on the splines, broken spokes, bad wheel bearing, etc.

Good advice. I pulled the wheel off and 3 of the 4 nuts retaining the wire wheel hub were loose. I didnt't torque them down when I replaced the brake shoes last month. They finally worked loose. I also checked the other side. Same issue just not as bad yet. Thanks again.

Glad you caught it early. I wasn't so observant, and 2 of the 4 studs had snapped by the time I noticed a problem, getting off the freeway some 900 miles from home ...

Yes, not worth taking the risk. I know of two friends who have lost back wheels from their Triumphs because of these nuts coming undone. Luckily no one hurt, but a real mess made of the rear wing and scratches underneath the car.
