TR2/3/3A TR3 part number needed and where to get part

I can't find any part number for the fiber washer that goes on the gas cap assembly, You can see the part where the washer would go in the picture. Moss shows the part but NA 293 510

FWIW -- I used a square-profile O-ring that I cut to make it the right diameter. Since it gets stuffed in there I didn't bother to glue the ends together but one could.

Thought I would buy a suitable O-ring but then found one left over from an old-style canister oil filter (they used to put a couple in with each filter).

I think you're right that the original would have been fibre, possibly red-brown in color, so an O-ring will not have the right look if that is important.

There may be asbestos in the original gas fill cap seal. Use some caution if tearing one up. (don't use a wire wheel in a drill to remove it)

AEW I think you are correct about the asbestos. It was so hard to remove that I soaked it in PB Blaster and then removed it with a small screwdriver. It looked like rope as it came out one very small piece at a time.

Part 293-510 was the scuttle hole waterproofing washer for the early two piece screw together filler cap. Superseded by a rubber grommet to seal the scuttle hole on later one piece filler caps.

I don't think there's ever been a part number for the red fuel tank seal embedded in the cap. Probably because it was supplied as an assembly by the maker.
