I've gotten tired of the "full-throated" sound (tinnitus) of muffler only, so it's time for a resonator. Can anyone provide the dimensions of the resonator so I can use a standard muffler instead of the stainless one from Moss. Thanks,

I don't have dimension of original resonator. Mine is longer than stock. I believe stock length resonator is difficult to source. Last I heard, one was being made/available in Australia. A search of the archive may find this discussion from a few years ago. Cheers, Mike
 
I'll bite -- which one is the resonator (the catalogs seem to call them both 'mufflers')? Seems like it would be the rear one but good to be sure. Once I know I can measure it. Neither of mine are original but then an original exhaust system is going to be hard to find.

I think mild steel is still available though possibly not as cheap as a generic muffler.

Thanks for the responses. Resonator is the rear one as I understand it. I'm getting a new Moss catalog with a pending order, so I'll check the listing.

The demensions of the ones from TRF is 3&3/4"by 6 &3/8" oval and 12" long.

Just a thought : I've had very good luck with driving into a local muffler shop and having them deal with it. The mufflers he installs are not exactly as original, being round instead of oval; but they sound good and last well. And the cost with installation is about the same as the parts alone from an LBC vendor. Best of all, I don't have to fight with stubborn pipe joints and rust falling in my eyes. With an appointment, it takes him only 30-40 minutes (during which I can walk next door and have a coffee & a bagel).
 
I like Randall's thoughts...I went one further..bought two @ 18 inch "Cherry Bomb" glasspaks on the internet for less than
1 Moss standard muffler. Took them to an independent muffler shop, had him weld them up, still less than half the Moss muffler $
Decent sound, doesn't bother my tinnitus & I've never had a "Cherry Bomb" rust out.
