TR2/3/3A TR3 holes in bonnet?

I have been looking at small trim and mounting details on my TR3.
I found (4) holes, two holes on each side of the bottom front edge of the Bonnet (USA hood).
What are they for?

I can't imagine what purpose they would serve. Don't remember anything from my old TR3 like that. Must have been something a previous owner did...

Over on the LHS above the steering column, you should have two holes where the spring-loaded safety latch in mounted. You don't need the two holes you show in the photo towards the RHS.

here are a couple of diagrams that should help

the first is from the TR3 parts catalog and the second from the owners handbook

These holes are out farther than than the latch assembly.
They are about a 1/2" apart and 1/8 dia.
2 on each side.
Maybe the P.O had something mounted on them?
Rubber to stop vibration?
Nothing stock for sure.

The top diagram that Frank shows is for an early TR2 which came with those two spring thingys and the pull cable shown over to the far side with the pull knob at the end for the driver of a right hand drive TR2. Also if you look closely at Frank's diagram, you will notice 4 cooling slots which are shown at the top back of the panel. I am led to believe that these only appeared on early TR2s.

In addition to the 4 holes you are asking about, do you have 4 air outlet slots across the back of your bonnet ? Other TRs only have two slots here.

If so, then I can only assume that your bonnet is from an early TR2.

Although I've not had a chance to go look, I'm just sure one of my bonnets has those same holes in it. Don't know what they were for or why they are there, but it was definitely not from an early enough car to have the cable locks or extra vent holes.

yes, Don is correct. Unfortunately my copy of the parts catalog does not show the changes in the bonnet for the TR3 or 4A. :frown:

I just have 2 slots on the bonnet.
