TR2/3/3A TR3 heater pipe bracket

My TR3 heater return pipe has a bracket welded or brazed on that is about 5/8"w x 3"l with about a 3/8" hole in it,that sticks out straight towards inner fener,behind coil.
What is this bracket for?

Aloha Tom,

The bracket should be run parallel against the engine block. I believe the bolt hole should line up with one of the bolts of the coil mounting bracket. It has been a few years since I've seen a heater in a TR3, but if I'm wrong some one will correct it soon.

Aloha back at ya Dave.
The bracket is perpendicular to the block and heater pipe,between cylinders 2&3.I should have said behind distributor,as I have no coil or bracket installed yet.I thought the coil mounted to block with just two bolts or screws.A new Lucas sport coil should be here tomorrow,and I thought it may be for wire loom clip or?

Dave is correct, the bracket should be straight down and mount sharing one of the 2 coil mount bolts. Can you loosen the connection at the water pump and rotate it 90*?

Thanks George.After looking at it again it does look like its off 90degrees and must be bent down to catch the coil bolt.I dont think I can rotate in pump because the 90deg.bend at rear of motor towards firewall outlet is ok.I was thinking it was bracket for something else but does seem to be support bracket for the tube itself.

Aloha Tom,

Here is a photo I found on line of the engine with a heater pipe installed. The end of the pipe at the rear of the engine should be pointing toward the fender. A short hose with a 90 degree bend leads to the through firewall fitting. In the photo the top of the coil is red and you can see the pipe behind it about even with the top of the block.
