TR2/3/3A TR3 Heater Alternatives

I seem to recall (from somewhere) that someone fitted a generic truck heater to a TR3. Possibly obtained at a truck stop.

Have also heard of a Spitfire heater being used in a TR3 as a more plentiful/cheaper/efficient alternative.

Any experience with these or other alternatives?

Or... does anyone have a TR3 heater to part with? I would need the works (core, lower housing & motor) though I expect this approach will be somewhat pricier than I care to spend for the rare heating requirements of Arizona.

You live in Arizona and are looking for a heater?? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif

I see them on E-bay alot...well, every once in awhile.

SPitfire will fit from what I have heard but also a Jeep CJ heater has been used in a 3.

My daily is a 1980 Jeep CJ5. Don't bother with a (hamster breath) heater outta one of those. I think a TR3 unit is just as good.
BUT, there is a unit in Jeeping catalogs called a Mojave heater , designed kind of universally, but intended as an auxillary unit. Most Jeep guys mount it under the drivers seat.
It has its own ducts and fan, and I believe is very comparable in size to an original TR3 unit.

Thanks for the links... those 7" cubes will work if I do not go with an original unit. For now (since it's 105 today) I'll just run a hose under the dash connecting the inlet & outlet.

A few years ago I was in Phoenix during a heatwave. I was camped out in a motel and took a midnite swim in 104 degree water...all I needed was soap and I could have forgone my shower!

I have an extra heater for a TR-3, let me rephrase that, I have bits and pieces of an extra heater for one. I salvaged one to make a good one for my Tr-3. Whats left, heater core with motor and fan, upper and lower casings. No clips to hold casings together, No duct work, Mounting bracket is there however not complete either { The bulkhead to dash brackets are M.I.A.}. The core has NOT been pressure tested so I can`t honestly say if it leaks or not. {it has been previously repaired} Oh and one of the heater doors on the lower casing is M.I.A. also.
I know, not much help but I figured if you can find one thats in need of parts ......
Maybe we can talk.
Psssssst. I need two GOOD Lucas tail light assemblys, Minus the lenses

One thing to always check is the coolant flow of an old heater. My heater on TS74011l was really plugged...virtually unusable.

I've picked up several TR3 heater cores from eBay; not one of them would pass a pressure test !

If I ever do worry about having a heater, I'll use a heater box from a Spit.
